Look, sometimes it's fun to just play out something completely sappy and self-indulgent. So let's do that here! This meme is for fluff and hurt/comfort stuff, shippy or not; AU, game setting, whatever.

Prose or brackets welcome; prompts below are just for kickstarting ideas if necessary, so don't worry about those if you've got something else in mind or just want to work things out separately. Let me know if you want to start something here, since I have it set up not to email me.


① Cuddling → For whatever reason, characters feel like being close and cuddling.
② Pillow talk → After the main event, characters are up for some pillow talk.
③ Celebration → Anniversary or some other big event is taking place and characters want to celebrate!

Wow, thanks Newt.

"It is. I'm amazed you've still got a sense of smell," he replies bluntly. "Though, on second thought, maybe you don't."

He gives a slight shrug, frowning and looking around. "D'you have a break room in this building or something? You'd know the layout better than me."

Newt wrinkles his nose at the panda, sticking out his tongue and then pulls the shirt over his head, running a webbed paw through his damp fur. He casts a look at the shark carcass, and then up at Ginko.

"Y'know, maybe some fresh air is a good idea," he says, pinching the bridge of his snout and lifting his glasses off. He shouldn't have stopped. The moment he stopped was when his body realised just how tired he was.

Ginko sticks his tongue out right back.

"Seems like it, if this is where you've been all day." He watches Newt with a small frown, then walks over to set a comparatively huge paw on his shoulder. "Lead the way, whenever you're ready."

His whiskers twitch as the paw makes contact, looking up at Ginko without his glasses on with a weary smile. He didn't even realise how long he'd been here, and is fairly certain that if Ginko hadn't appeared he would've just worked into the night. The shark could wait--he can call up some of his interns to transfer it to the cold storage they had for inspection tomorrow. But Ginko was important. And he's really bad at remembering that sometimes.

He grabs his phone and ID from his small desk, firing off a text to the group intern chat to get them to finish up, pulls his voice recorder out of his gross shirt to dump on the desk too, and then moves back toward the door, motioning for Ginko to come as he grabs his backback.

"Let's just go home."

In all honesty, he's pretty glad to see that. He lets out a quiet breath, a smile appearing on his own muzzle as Newt heads for the door.

"Sounds like a plan." He follows behind Newt, one hand in his pocket as the other holds onto the bag of takeout. "...Probably gonna have to reheat this stuff by the time we get there."

Newt falls into step beside Ginko as they head for the exit, peering at the bag thats practically shoulder height on him.

"What did you get, anyway? I can't really smell it over the shark oil in my fur."

Yeah, you're probably gonna want him to have a real bath when you get home.

Yyyyeah that's. Definitely gonna need to happen.

"Uh... well, I've got a couple salads - don't worry, one of them is mostly shrimp - and some fish sticks for you and fried bamboo for me. Sound good?"

It doesn't take them long to get to past security check point, the guard at the door blinking in confusion as she wasn't even aware Newt was still in the building.

"Ughh, that sounds so good," he says, tail curling as he holds the doors to the entrance of the labs open for Ginko. "Aw, man, did you get it from Tanuki's? I love their shrimp salad."

He sets a paw on the door as he goes through, so Newt can let go. "Sure did. Figured I'd have a better chance of getting you to actually stop and eat it that way."

That gets the panda a toothy grin, and he moves through the door, waiting for Ginko.

"Oh man, you know me way too well."

Ginko laughs as he follows, glancing around to remind himself where he parked the car.

"Oh, and you want to complain about that? I guess I could always start going to Sea and Sand for your food instead."

Newt stares at him in mild horror.

"You start doing that and I'm never coming home. Nope."

"Never, as opposed to once every few days, huh?"

With the car located, he heads straight for it and pulls open the passenger door for Newt.

Newt has the decency to look a little sheepish at that comment, rubbing the back of his neck as he waits for Ginko to open the large door.

"Dude, I don't do that," he starts, frowning at his feet, before climbing up into the car. "I mean. Not on purpose."

"I know, I know." He shuts the door and goes around to climb in on the other side, giving Newt a small, reassuring smile.

"Maybe you should start setting an alarm or something."

Newt fidgets to get comfortable, watching the door out of the corner of his eye as Ginko climbs in, whiskers twitching.

"You don't get it! I just... like get in the zone. And I have to get everything done. It's almost like the world depends on my research all in that moment," he starts, before rubbing at his muzzle.

"I mean, it's less the world and more the marine ecosystems of Zootopia and how pollution is affecting sea life, but. Y'know."

"Well... yeah, I guess that might make it tough to stop, yeah." He hums thoughtfully as he starts down the road. "But maybe there's some way to get your attention so you can stop on time."

Newt curls up a little on himself and yawns as the gentle hum of the engine and the moving of the car relax him.

"Pfft, yeah. Not having a personality disorder probably."

Ginko's ears twitch slightly, and his shoulders pull up a little.

"...Probably. Sorry, I... don't mean to put pressure on you or anything. Just... lemme know if there's anything I can do, okay?"

Newt bundles himself up even more, curling his tail around his stomach so he can fiddle with it as he stares out of the low window.

"Yeah, I know," he shrugs, twisting some of the fur on his tail with webbed paws. There's a moment of silence, Newt fidgeting in his seat as he thinks.

"Sometimes I wonder why you even deal with me."

That gets Ginko to glance over at him, eyebrows furrowing slightly.

"...Well, that's simple enough. Because you're great, and I care about you." He reaches over to set a paw on Newt's shoulder, which may not be the best idea given that he's driving, but that isn't going to stop him apparently.

Newt's quiet for a long time, staring out of the window still, his whiskers twitching as the paw is placed on him again. He waits a few beats before rubbing at his face again, pushing his glasses up onto his head.

"I think I'm just tired. And feeling shitty for not giving you my full attention. Because you totally deserve it."

Ginko gives a quiet huff, glancing over at him for just a moment. "Hey, don't worry about that. For now, you should just focus on resting, alright?"

Newt gives a small nod and goes quite again, but it doesn't take much time before Ginko can hear soft snores of an exhausted otter taking him up on that advice.

He's certainly pretty glad to hear that sound. Ginko stays quiet for the rest of the drive, focusing on the road instead. It doesn't take long for them to pass through the tunnel to the rainforest district, a fine mist of rain spattering the windshield as they emerge.

Finally, the car pulls into the parking lot of their apartment complex. Ginko parks and climbs out, grabbing the bag of food in one hand and scooping Newt up in his other arm to carry him up to their door.
