Look, sometimes it's fun to just play out something completely sappy and self-indulgent. So let's do that here! This meme is for fluff and hurt/comfort stuff, shippy or not; AU, game setting, whatever.

Prose or brackets welcome; prompts below are just for kickstarting ideas if necessary, so don't worry about those if you've got something else in mind or just want to work things out separately. Let me know if you want to start something here, since I have it set up not to email me.


① Cuddling → For whatever reason, characters feel like being close and cuddling.

Newt bundles himself up even more, curling his tail around his stomach so he can fiddle with it as he stares out of the low window.

"Yeah, I know," he shrugs, twisting some of the fur on his tail with webbed paws. There's a moment of silence, Newt fidgeting in his seat as he thinks.

"Sometimes I wonder why you even deal with me."

That gets Ginko to glance over at him, eyebrows furrowing slightly.

"...Well, that's simple enough. Because you're great, and I care about you." He reaches over to set a paw on Newt's shoulder, which may not be the best idea given that he's driving, but that isn't going to stop him apparently.

Newt's quiet for a long time, staring out of the window still, his whiskers twitching as the paw is placed on him again. He waits a few beats before rubbing at his face again, pushing his glasses up onto his head.

"I think I'm just tired. And feeling shitty for not giving you my full attention. Because you totally deserve it."

Ginko gives a quiet huff, glancing over at him for just a moment. "Hey, don't worry about that. For now, you should just focus on resting, alright?"

Newt gives a small nod and goes quite again, but it doesn't take much time before Ginko can hear soft snores of an exhausted otter taking him up on that advice.

He's certainly pretty glad to hear that sound. Ginko stays quiet for the rest of the drive, focusing on the road instead. It doesn't take long for them to pass through the tunnel to the rainforest district, a fine mist of rain spattering the windshield as they emerge.

Finally, the car pulls into the parking lot of their apartment complex. Ginko parks and climbs out, grabbing the bag of food in one hand and scooping Newt up in his other arm to carry him up to their door.

Newt remains asleep throughout the entire car ride, only shifting once or twice when they hit particularly bumpy patches of road or potholes. But when he's like this, it's pretty hard to actually wake him up.

He doesn't even wake when Ginko scoops him up and carries him inside, something that's become somewhat of a habit between them lately. Instead he curls into Ginko's hold, muzzle nuzzling down into the crook of his arm and sending his glasses askew, apparently dead to the world. Was that a little happy otter sigh? I think it was.

Ginko loops the bag's strap over his wrist so he can unlock the door, setting the food down on the table before turning his attention to Newt.

He gives a quiet snort and takes Newt's glasses, setting them next to the takeout bag. The otter himself, he takes to the bathroom - where he fills up the tub, makes sure there's nothing still in his pockets, and just sort of. Sets him down on top of the water. Then he sits down next to the tub, keeping hold of Newt's paw with his own.

Newt doesn't wake up straight away, and in fact it takes a good ten minutes for the water to start permeating his thick double coat and make him actually realise he's getting wet. Whiskers twitch and his paw tightens on Ginko's instinctively before he's fully awake, making one of his smaller squeaking noises as he yaws and lifts his other paw--now wet-- to rub at his face.

Honestly, he'd probably be more surprised if this wasn't the first time this has happened.

"Do I seriously smell that bad?" he asked sleepily tugging himself so he floats closer to Ginko, floating even with his heavy clothes thoroughly soaked.

The question makes Ginko jolt, just slightly, his good eye blinking open (he TOTALLY didn't start to nod off just in those ten minutes, nope). He shakes himself a little and gives a soft snort, glancing at Newt.

"Something had to be done, alright."

The jolt makes Newt grin fondly, curling his paw around Ginko's more tightly. His tail aims a small splash of water at the panda which Ginko is probably expecting. Newt plus water invariably gets both of them soaked, either by Newt just splashing around too much or Ginko giving up and getting in the water too.

Ginko lets out a huff of laughter, lifting his other arm to block the splash. It's not very effective, of course, but he tried. "--Hey, c'mon, you start that up and we're never gonna get around to eating."

"You and I both know that my fur is too thick for me to finish grooming in any reasonable amount of time," he starts, letting go of Ginko's paw so he can float into the center of the tub and start squirming out of his clothes.

"I'm just saying, if you want this to go quickly, you might as well join me."

"...Good point."

Ginko snorts and stands up to start pulling his shirt off, reaching out to take Newt's clothes as he gets them off. He'll just set those aside for now, they're going to need to be washed anyway. "I would ask how you even got all this stink on yourself, but then again, I guess I saw how."

Newt starts the slow process of getting the shark oils out of his fur as he floats on his back, scooping up the water in his webbed paws and rubbing it into the top layer of his cheeks, whiskers flicking.

"I was trying to cut out the gills and keep the body in tact," he says with a shrug, kicking so Ginko has room to get in. He does a barrel roll and then ducks down under the surface, sending up a torrent of bubbles out of his dense fur as it saturates, floating up to the surface on his back again to straighten his whiskers.

"I didn't wanna go in the other way, plus the body cavity was already empty. I mean, if Carlo had been there it would've been way easier, but I guess they actually keep sane hours as lab techs."

"Fair enough. Though, if you don't mind me asking, why'd you need the gills out?"

Clothes set aside, he steps into the tub and sits down, quietly glad that he'd had the foresight not to overfill the bath. They don't need water spilling all over the floor on top of everything. "Alright, hold still and let me check that it's not sticking to your back or anything."

"I need to check the concentration of contaminates blocking the oxygen uptake. I'm trying to figure out it her death was a direct result of chemicals spilling into the ocean, and since her blood levels were all over the place and filled with toxins, I'm trying to prove that we can't just keep dumping shit into the ocean. I mean, not that anyone really cares about sharks, but somebody has to," he says with a sigh, splashing himself forward to let Ginko climb in before perching himself on the panda's knee, his back facing him as he keeps washing his face.

"There's been a lot of washed up sharks on Palm Bay, so I'm trying to figure out what's causing it."

"Ah, yeah... makes sense. And can you reach the shampoo from there, because you might need it."

He keeps poking at Newt's back for a few seconds, scrubbing at his fur just with water as well as he can, before speaking up again.

"...I'm glad you're doing this stuff. You're definitely right about it being more important than most mammals realize."

Just, y'know. In case Newt hadn't fully realized that.

Newt sighs pleasantly as Ginko rubs his back, moving his shoulders to try and get him to rub them a little more before he reaches for the shampoo to pass behind him. He makes a pleased noise, curling his tail under the water.

"They just assume because they don't have sentience that they are lesser than us... But they have every right to be here as we do," he starts, pulling water up to clean his face more. "mammals forget just how much we rely on the ocean, and we're actually damaging it way more than they realise. I gotta show everyone how important that ecosystem is--that we should protect it."

Ginko starts working the shampoo into Newt's fur, not quite stopping a small, fond smile from working its way onto his muzzle as Newt talks.

"Yeah. You're doing good work, Newt... with any luck, more mammals are going to start figuring that out. How's the oil situation on your front?"

"Okay, so maybe this was just a ploy to get you to rub my shoulders," he chirps, shivering as Ginko keeps massaging the shampoo in. There's definitely more oil on his front, he's gotten distracted by enjoying Ginko's large paws on his fur.

"Can you really blame me?"

That gets a brief snort of laughter, and an affectionate bump of Ginko's nose against the back of Newt's head. "No, but you know you could have just asked."

That bump gets a small surprised chirp, and he turns around, balancing up on Ginko's knee, putting webbed paws on his muzzle to stop himself from falling into the tub. He leans up and presses his nose against the panda's, whiskers twitching forward as he presses a small kiss there.

"Yeah, I know, but you know what I want without asking. It's kinda cute."

Ginko laughs - and sets about rubbing the shampoo into the fur on Newt's chest. Still got the whole shark oil thing to deal with.

He gives a slightly embarrassed huff, ears twitching. "--ah, well. I do try."

The otter squirms under Ginko's hands, trying to get out of his grip. His back being rubbed was good, but that's tickling and Ginko probably knows it. He uses his tail to splash up some of the bath water into Ginko's face.

"Ah! Dude! No! Stop that tickles!"
