FLUFF MEME

Look, sometimes it's fun to just play out something completely sappy and self-indulgent. So let's do that here! This meme is for fluff and hurt/comfort stuff, shippy or not; AU, game setting, whatever.

Prose or brackets welcome; prompts below are just for kickstarting ideas if necessary, so don't worry about those if you've got something else in mind or just want to work things out separately. Let me know if you want to start something here, since I have it set up not to email me.

① Cuddling → For whatever reason, characters feel like being close and cuddling.
② Pillow talk → After the main event, characters are up for some pillow talk.
③ Celebration → Anniversary or some other big event is taking place and characters want to celebrate!

Ginko gives a soft snort and wraps an arm gingerly around Ed's shoulders. "Don't recall anyone saying it couldn't go two ways."

He pauses, then turns to look more directly at Ed again. "...Something wrong?"

Ed grumbles a little, but a faint smile tugs at his mouth and his uninjured hand lifts up to hold the hand Ginko has around him.. "Ass."

He shrugs with his good shoulder, wincing when even that movement sends a twinge down his wing. "Just...I dunno. Had something on my mind for a while."

He tilts his head curiously, his ears angling forward a bit. "...What is it?"

He doesn't quite know whether he should be worried or not.

Is now really the best time? ...but he's told himself that so many times already. Granted now might really be a bad time for it, but...hell, Ginko is asking.

"Thinking about, uh, movin' in up here. If you're alright with that." Edward leans a little more of his weight on Ginko, his eyes falling halfway shut. "I don't like feeling like I'm just...abandonin' you up here or something every time I go."

It takes a moment for Ginko to respond, instead just staring at Ed in surprise for a moment. Somehow, of all the things he had expected, that was most certainly not one of them.

"Of-- of course." He finally finds his voice again, his tail flicking sheepishly. "I'd, uh... well, that would be more than alright, actually."

"Really?" His ears twitch up and Ed looks up at Ginko with faint surprise. Though why he would be SURPRISED by that response is a mystery the world may never know. "Ah...m'glad."

On reflex Ed tries to fold his wing around Ginko, but the movement sends a stabbing pain through the breaks and he sucks in a sharp breath, gritting his teeth.

Unfortunately, Ginko doesn't get too long to enjoy the pleasant surprise of Ed's question. "Hey-- careful." His ears flip back with worry, but there isn't a whole lot he can do except to adjust the position of his arm to hold Ed more closely against him.

Ed lets out a low groan, closing his eyes and pressing his cheek to Ginko's shoulder while he gets his breathing back under control. There doesn't seem to be a single bit of him that doesn't ache to some extent right now.

Ed squeezes Ginko's hand after a few moments and cracks a fain grin. "M' always careful."

Ginko huffs softly and squeezes back, very gently. "That's a lie and you know it."

He chuckles and reaches to let his tail lie over Ginko's. "Didn't say whose standards I was using."

He gives another quiet snort and then falls silent for a few seconds, rubbing idly at Ed's shoulder as his tail twines around the minotaur's.

"...I'm glad you got away."

It probably goes without saying. But that's not going to stop him.

Edward frowns a little and looks up at Ginko, pausing for a moment before shifting to wrap his good arm around the troll.

"...I am, too." It had been pretty scary there for a while, beaten and kicked around while that shrill noise left him off-balance and helpless to fight back. He hadn't often felt like that since changing, and it wasn't something he wanted to feel again.

Ginko is silent for another few seconds, then moves to get up with a mumbled assurance of his return, being careful not to jostle Ed too much.

He comes back less than a minute later, a folded-up blanket in his arms, and sits back down next to Ed before unfolding the blanket and pulling it up over both of them. He gets his arm around Ed again, returning to their previous position.

Ed's ears lay back as he watches Ginko get up and move out of his sight, trying to not worry too much about that fact. But once Ginko has returned he smiles and helps to get the blanket around them with a minimal amount of wincing and grit teeth. He's quick to get his arm around Ginko again, leaning his head on his shoulder and letting out a small sigh.

Truth be told, Ginko finds himself a little tenser during the brief time he leaves Ed alone to go get the blanket. Once he returns, though, he manages to relax again (as much as could be expected under the circumstances), holding Ed close.

He starts to open his mouth, as if making half an effort to say something, but instead ends up just giving up and turning his head a little to rest his mouth against the top of Ed's head.

Ed's eyes slide slowly closed, and he scoots a little closer against Ginko, seeking out the comfort and feeling of safety he brings. He's too tired to say anything, but the way his fingers curl into Ginko's fur, the way his tail twines tightly with the troll's, it says more than words ever could.

Please don't go.

Ginko's tail curls tight around Ed's in turn, and that message gets across clearly enough. He seeks out the minotaur's free hand and twines their fingers together gently, his voice a soft, muffled mumble against Ed's hair. "'S'alright. I'm not going anywhere."

Edward lets out a soft, slow breath, holding Ginko's hand tightly and trying to not let the sting at the corners of his eyes get any further than that. Regardless of how shaken he is, his pride can't quite take breaking down and crying like this.

"Thank you..."

"No problem."

Really, Ginko couldn't blame Ed if he did end up crying, especially given the circumstances. But he knew he would want to avoid it, anyway. So he just kept trying to do what he could to help - which mostly consisted of staying right where he was, holding Ed close against him.

Ed tries to keep up a strong front, but even he has limits. It starts off slow; a few wet pricks at the corner of his eyes, a slight shake to his shoulders. He turns and presses his face more fully into Ginko's soft fur with a shaky breath, and the trembling increases by a hair.

"It's...it's so stupid. All they needed was a stupid whistle, and..."

Ginko moves his hand up to the back of Ed's head, his ears swiveling back as he runs his claws gently through the minotaur's hair. He can feel the beginnings of anger burning in his stomach, and forces it down for the time being; that won't help Ed right now.

"It's okay. You're alright, okay..." He gives his hand a gentle squeeze and presses a kiss to his head. He's got bits and pieces of what happened, but there are still some questions left. "How did you get away?"

A soft whimper escapes him, and Ed leans his head back a little into Ginko's hand.

"Someone came by...a vampire. Got their attention long enough I could get away." He shakes his head, voice shaky. "I just ran as fast as I could."

He nods, his fingers curling against Ed's head. "That's... okay. That's good; you got away, that's what matters. We can look into finding out who that vampire was later."

Ed nods and takes another slow breath. "I would have died if they hadn't come."

That's what's really sinking in, now. He would have died, in pain and torn apart and completely incapable of fighting back. Even when he'd died before, even back home he had never been completely helpless like this. Strong enough to throw a car and he almost lost his life to a gang of fucking drunks.

That's the thought that Ginko can't seem to shake, either. Even if he would have come back, the thought of Ed being beaten to death in some back alley because a few assholes didn't like monsters just adds to the cold knot coiled tight in his stomach, fear and despair threatening to turn to anger at any moment.

"But you didn't." He's reminding himself as much as Ed. "You're okay, and chances are those people aren't going to be trying anything like that again."

He doesn't specify why, because even now he'd really rather not think about it too much, but...
