FLUFF MEME

Look, sometimes it's fun to just play out something completely sappy and self-indulgent. So let's do that here! This meme is for fluff and hurt/comfort stuff, shippy or not; AU, game setting, whatever.

Prose or brackets welcome; prompts below are just for kickstarting ideas if necessary, so don't worry about those if you've got something else in mind or just want to work things out separately. Let me know if you want to start something here, since I have it set up not to email me.

① Cuddling → For whatever reason, characters feel like being close and cuddling.
② Pillow talk → After the main event, characters are up for some pillow talk.
③ Celebration → Anniversary or some other big event is taking place and characters want to celebrate!
④ Love confession → Someone has finally decided to confess their love and today is the day!

Ginko's tail curls tight around Ed's in turn, and that message gets across clearly enough. He seeks out the minotaur's free hand and twines their fingers together gently, his voice a soft, muffled mumble against Ed's hair. "'S'alright. I'm not going anywhere."

Edward lets out a soft, slow breath, holding Ginko's hand tightly and trying to not let the sting at the corners of his eyes get any further than that. Regardless of how shaken he is, his pride can't quite take breaking down and crying like this.

"Thank you..."

"No problem."

Really, Ginko couldn't blame Ed if he did end up crying, especially given the circumstances. But he knew he would want to avoid it, anyway. So he just kept trying to do what he could to help - which mostly consisted of staying right where he was, holding Ed close against him.

Ed tries to keep up a strong front, but even he has limits. It starts off slow; a few wet pricks at the corner of his eyes, a slight shake to his shoulders. He turns and presses his face more fully into Ginko's soft fur with a shaky breath, and the trembling increases by a hair.

"It's...it's so stupid. All they needed was a stupid whistle, and..."

Ginko moves his hand up to the back of Ed's head, his ears swiveling back as he runs his claws gently through the minotaur's hair. He can feel the beginnings of anger burning in his stomach, and forces it down for the time being; that won't help Ed right now.

"It's okay. You're alright, okay..." He gives his hand a gentle squeeze and presses a kiss to his head. He's got bits and pieces of what happened, but there are still some questions left. "How did you get away?"

A soft whimper escapes him, and Ed leans his head back a little into Ginko's hand.

"Someone came by...a vampire. Got their attention long enough I could get away." He shakes his head, voice shaky. "I just ran as fast as I could."

He nods, his fingers curling against Ed's head. "That's... okay. That's good; you got away, that's what matters. We can look into finding out who that vampire was later."

Ed nods and takes another slow breath. "I would have died if they hadn't come."

That's what's really sinking in, now. He would have died, in pain and torn apart and completely incapable of fighting back. Even when he'd died before, even back home he had never been completely helpless like this. Strong enough to throw a car and he almost lost his life to a gang of fucking drunks.

That's the thought that Ginko can't seem to shake, either. Even if he would have come back, the thought of Ed being beaten to death in some back alley because a few assholes didn't like monsters just adds to the cold knot coiled tight in his stomach, fear and despair threatening to turn to anger at any moment.

"But you didn't." He's reminding himself as much as Ed. "You're okay, and chances are those people aren't going to be trying anything like that again."

He doesn't specify why, because even now he'd really rather not think about it too much, but...

"Yeah...yeah."

He has to take comfort in that, as grim as the sentiment is. His ears press back, and Ed leans into the soft warmth of Ginko's fur. Closing his eyes and taking slow, deep breaths, a few tears roll down his face.

He opens his mouth to try and speak again, but nothing comes. Shaking his head, his shoulders shake quietly as he lets the tears flow freely.

Ginko holds onto Ed as tightly as he can without risking hurting him, pressing his nose and mouth into his hair again. He keeps mumbling reassurances as best he can, as well as he can think of them. Of course, there's only so much he can say. But it's the best he can do.

It's a while before Ed calms down again, slowly relaxing against Ginko as some of the tension leaves his body. Not all of it, not with how much pain he's in, but it's enough that he's mostly slumped against Ginko with eyes closed and only the occasional soft whimper of pain escaping him.

After a few minutes of quiet, he speaks up again in a faint mumble. "Think I might need to sleep a while."

He lifts his head enough to look down at Ed when he speaks, his ears flicking slightly.

"Do you want to stay here or try to move to the bed?"

His ears lay back at the thought of moving, but...

"Th' bed'll be better, I think."

Ginko nods. "Okay, hang on."

He leans over, sliding an arm under Ed's knees and wrapping an arm around his back, trying to avoid jostling his wings.

Some amount of jostling can't be avoided, but Ed stifles the hiss of pain and only tenses a little, shifting as best he can to make it easier for Ginko to carry him. His wings fold in a little more, but still drag a bit on the ground.

Ed huffs out a breath and manages a small grin. "Pff...'m I your princess or something now?"

"If you want to be." His tone is gentle and teasing, even with the exhaustion of the last few minutes' stress dulling his voice.

He nudges open the door to his room with his shoulder, quietly glad that he hadn't latched it, and carries Ed in to lay him down carefully on the bed, frowning slightly as he tries to figure out how to set him down without disturbing any of his injuries.

"Ass." Ed leans his head against Ginko's chest anyway with a soft smile. "I guess I can put up with it for a bit."

Ed tries to help, spreading his wings as much as he can so they don't fold awkwardly beneath him. Try as he might, as Ginko helps him settle he can't help a few faint hisses of pain, but he manages to get settled as comfortably as he can.

Ginko cringes slightly each time he hears those hisses, but eventually Ed seems to be about as comfortable as could be expected.

Ginko makes sure he's situated, and then, still very carefully, scoots over to lie next to him, having no intention of leaving Ed alone. "...Is this alright?"

Ed had closed his eyes to settle in and rest, but opens them again when he feels the bed shift from Ginko's weight. He smiles and lifts his good hand to place on one of Ginko's.

"Yeah. Thanks for taking care of me."

"No problem." He turns his hand over to curl his fingers around Ed's. "Thanks for letting me."

A breath of laughter escapes Edward, and he casts the troll a fond smile.

"'M still getting used to the idea that I can."

Ginko snorts quietly, an answering smile tugging at his mouth.

"Good to know you are getting used to it."

Partly because holy shit does he ever need help sometimes.

His picture is next to the definition of the phrase, let's be honest here.

He smirks and closes his eyes again, breathing starting to slow and even out again. "Well, with you nagging at me so much it's hard not to," is the gentle joke of his reply.

"Guess I should keep doing it, then."

Ginko gives a soft sigh of relief as Ed's breathing evens out. That's a good sign. He shifts slightly closer, resting his head against Ed's.
