So. You’re lost.

Or maybe you know exactly where you are, but, for one reason or another, you can’t get back to civilization. Or maybe you just don’t want to.

The fact is, you are, for all intents and purposes, trapped in the wilderness. If you play your cards right, you might get through this basically unscathed - but one mistake could destroy your chances of survival.

EXTRA OBSTACLES

You know, in case it’s not going to be tough enough for your character already. Feel free to combine them, or forego them entirely!

Injury - Could be anything from a sprained ankle to a concussion. Of course, there’s no reason you can’t make it worse if you want to (as long as you make sure to warn for any particularly bad gore).

2. Illness - You knew you shouldn’t have eaten those berries… or maybe you’re just a little under the weather. Whatever the cause, you don’t feel great.

3. Hunted - Something out there wants you dead. Maybe it’s just a case of natural predation, and you happen to be on the wrong end, or maybe there’s some kind of a most dangerous game situation going on here.

4. Extreme Weather - Whether it’s snow and ice or the burning sun, the weather itself seems to be out to get you. Huddle for warmth, set up a shelter... whatever the situation, do what you’ve got to do and hope it works out.

5. Natural Disaster - Flooding, landslides, earthquakes, fire… though adjacent to the matter of the weather, some dangers deserve their own category.

6. Wildcard - Make up your own obstacle!

[This isn't quite what Frisk expected when they ran away to the mountain. They'd heard ghost stories, tales of horrible monsters that would chase down those foolish enough to venture into the verdant forest. But they haven't seen a single beast or even a tiny animal ever since they started climbing.]

[It's eerily quiet.]

[Fall was unusually quick to relent to winter this year, and when a bitter cold wind whipped through the trees Frisk had rushed to the nearest shelter they could find--which in this case was the hollowed out corpse of an ancient oak tree, the trunk rotted out just enough to allow a small child to curl up inside. Sniffling and hugging their knees to their chest, they watched the wind turn to a storm, ice-cold water coming down in sheets and soaking them through even in their shelter. Several hours later and it didn't look at all like it was going to let up.]

[At first, Ginko had suspected that he might be wasting his time by coming here. It could be hard to tell sometimes, with cases like this, where the truth ended and the rumors began, and stories of a mountain that swallowed people up could easily be just that: Stories, with little to no basis.

Seeing the mountain in person, however, had been somewhat heartening... in a manner of speaking, anyway. There was certainly something wrong with this mountain, whether brought on by mushi or the light vein itself, and that certainty only grew when he set foot on its slopes.

Unfortunately, in his eagerness, he neglected to take into account what effect whatever was happening to this mountain might have on the weather. By the time he realizes his mistake, the icy rain is running down the back of his neck, and the ground is slippery with mud under his feet. Walking back down to the base of the mountain isn't an option under these conditions - if he tried, he suspects he'd only end up being turned around by his darkened surroundings, anyway. Which leaves him with only one option: Find some kind of shelter, and wait it out.

It's by sheer chance that his search takes him near the old tree, and that, as he glances over it, he catches a glimpse of something that doesn't belong - just the tip of a small shoe, but it's enough to get his attention.

He steps around to where he can crouch down and peer into the hollowed trunk, and... oh.]

...Hey. What are you doing out here?

[Frisk startles suddenly when he speaks, scrambling to press as far back into their hiding spot as they can. Staring up through heavy lashes, Frisk doesn't respond for several long moments.]

...'m...hidin'.

[...Huh. That doesn't tell him a whole lot, except that he's... probably right to be concerned.]

[Frisk curls up tightly again, watching Ginko warily. They don't trust him--can't trust him, couldn't ever trust anyone other than...]

[They swallow hard, and try not to think about it.]

[Ginko stays there in silence, considering them for a few moments.]

...Well. Do you mind if I stick around, then? This seems to be the best place around to set up my tent.

[That's not strictly true; he could keep looking, and very likely find somewhere better. But it could work.

Besides, leaving this kid alone in this weather doesn't sit well with him.]

"We really gotta stop meeting like this..."

Meaning, on the job. Or, at least, he has to stop inviting Grant along to things he thought were totally safe. Things that ended up not even being close to safe. This? This was supposed to be a haunting in a cabin in the woods. So he figured, hey, bring the guy who probably knew how to politely ask a ghost to leave, instead of his usual method of... well. Punching it.

Punching it ended up being the only option when it turned out the ghost was some kind of radical activist in life, and took offense to some bit of leather on Grant's person.

Either way, the cabin had been emptied. And... well. The weather had abruptly taken a hard left turn at awful. There was little chance of hiking back to the car in a literal blizzard. So camping it was -- in a cabin barely holding together.

"I'm sorry, again. For all of this."

Grant, at least, doesn't seem too bothered by it all. Or at least he's not showing it. He... is definitely a little bit shaken by the whole angry ghost thing, and the weather situation is... troubling. But the last thing he wants is for Shiro to feel worse about all this than he definitely already does.

He gives a weak laugh, stepping away from the window where he had been peering out at the snow. "It's alright - not like you could've predicted this would happen."
