URBAN FANTASY POST

source
Who feels like playing out some urban fantasy garbage cuz I SURE DO
It’s pretty straightforward - I’m gonna (probably gradually over time) get my guys on here with a brief idea of how they’d work in this setting, here are some prompts and such, feel free to pick one or more or just make up a thing yourself!
Species
Please note that you are free to decide details of how your character ‘works’ - a ghost could be trapped on the mortal plane because of unfinished business or a curse, a vampire could have been bitten or it could be a genetic trait, demons could be naturally malevolent or some of them are just dicks. It’s up to you!
1. Werewolf - Big furry woofers. Pretty straightforward.
2. Vampire - Blood-sucking, darkness, maybe bats or mist or something is involved?
3. Fae - Probably going to be more of Seelie vs. Unseelie mischief-causing variety than cute little flying people.
4. Demon - Ow, the edge.
5. Ghost - Remember when that one animated music video was super popular for like a month and you couldn’t take two steps without tripping over fanart of it? Anyway, your character is dead.
6. Human - You all know how these work. Do I even need a prompt for this?
Scenario
1. Monster Hunt - Have there been some mysterious murders? Magical destiny? Or maybe you just really hate people with pointy teeth.
2. Occult Shop - Hey, witches and such have to get their supplies somewhere. It could be hidden somewhere or out in plain daylight, but something about this store probably feels a little off. Or maybe it’s just the smell.
3. Turf War - Is vampires vs. werewolves still cool? I don’t even know. The point is you don’t like them and they don’t like you and this is YOUR TERRITORY. Or maybe it’s theirs. Maybe the real territory was the friends we made along the way.
4. INVESTIGATION - Look there’s no denying that some weird stuff happens in this city, and some people are bound to want to figure out just what. Potentially regardless of whether they’re prepared for what they’re getting themselves into.
[[I’ll probably add more eventually I’ve been out all day and I’m tired right now]]

Because, let's be real, as excited as he is for this, he knows perfectly well that his kid will probably be... less than thrilled.
no subject
"Are they still upset I ask for your help?"
Saying Chip is "upset" is probably putting it mildly.
no subject
Which makes handling this all the more complicated.
"...I'm sure they'll come around. They just... don't know you very well yet."
no subject
He was prepared for that answer, but that doesn't mean it doesn't sting. He lets out a long sigh, looking down at his hands.
"If... it gets too much for them... please tell me." He looks up at the word 'please', if only to let Grant know how serious he is, here. "They're your family. I'd never want to do anything to hurt that."
no subject
"I will, I promise. For now, we'll keep trying to work this out, alright?" He already knows, if it comes down to it, he'll have to choose Chip. But he doesn't want to have to choose, not if it can be avoided.
no subject
But he'll understand.
Somehow, that's harder.
"'This', huh?" He asks it lightly, instead. Idly threading fingers through Grant's. "I guess this makes us like one of those... cop shows where the leads admit there's something there."
no subject
no subject
His hand squeezes again. Lightly. Curling more around Grant's hand with warm, human fingers.
"Thank you. For sticking with me out there."
no subject
He shrugs, looking away for a moment. "I mean... I couldn't have just left you."
no subject
And this is a rare instance of Shiro saying something is fine... when it actually is. He tugs on Grant's hand a little, though, as the other man turns away. "Doesn't make me less grateful."
He also doesn't say that yes, Grant could have left him. It wouldn't have been the first time...
no subject
He also has about a million questions about how that works, but now is probably not the time.
no subject
"And hey. Now you know where to find me."
no subject
"Guess so. I should probably come by and look at the art more often anyway, huh?"
no subject
He means it, too. A little smile along the corners of his mouth and eyes. "So... you could come in whenever you wanted. No fee required."
If, you know, Grant wanted to come hang out with a bunch of Paladins.
no subject
He can ask later if a pass would allow him to bring Chip along - that's something for once they're acclimated enough to even Shiro being around for bringing them somewhere with more Paladins to be anything but a terrible idea.
"Think I'd probably get a good bit of use from it, actually. Assuming that would be okay, I mean-- I don't want to get in the way, I know you guys probably have a lot to do."
no subject
He was absolutely thinking of Chip too. Of how to help them out. Maybe make them hate him just a little bit less. If they wanted to. He doesn't know. But Hunk seems like a good place to start.
Another little smile. He squeezes that hand again. "You won't be in the way. Promise. Not... if I have anything to say about it."
no subject
"...Okay. But... just let me know if I ever am, alright? Just to be sure."
no subject
Mostly Hunk. Strangely enough, Keith was a little concerned about the kid too. But hey, if their own weird child was opening up a little, the more the better.
"I will. Doubt you will be. But I will."
no subject
Grant nods, satisfied with that. "Good. And I'll do my best to make sure you really don't have to."
no subject
Which lead to more questions. Like about what Chip liked. If they had allergies. Where they came from. He hadn't had any good answers.
"Your best is... more than enough."
no subject
That's a strange thought. He's never actually dated a guy with kids before - and even if they're not actually related or even adopted, it sounds like the other Paladins might as well be Shiro's kids - and he certainly hasn't had to tell a date's kids about his own before.
That actually leaves him speechless for a moment. Then he has to sort of duck his head and cover his face with one hand for a moment in a vain effort to hide his blush. "I... I sure hope so. You sure seem to be giving me a lot of credit here."
no subject
Even Keith. Who was typically was as little involved with people outside their little band. He'd seemed worried, even. A step forward, as far as Shiro's concerned.
Yeah, they might as well be his kids. He loves them like they are, anyway.
"You saved me back there... credit where it's due, Grant." He means it. Completely and sincerely. Like he always does. Like Grant is going to have to get used to.
no subject
More than they are with Shiro, anyway...
Speaking of Shiro, Grant is feeling more like his face is burning up by the second. He laughs, shaky and nervous, and hunches his shoulders a little. "All I did was drive a car, but-- thanks."
no subject
Since Grant's already met the guy, he can probably tell how easygoing Hunk is. A good stepping stone for the others.
And he shakes his head, shifting to prop himself up on an elbow. Y'know, for one of those cliche blanket-shifts-down-off-someone's-chest moments. But also: "You still saved me. You can take some credit."
no subject
“--Um. What… what do you think happened back there?”
Maybe not the best topic, but. It’s a different one. Less embarrassing.
