URBAN FANTASY POST

source
Who feels like playing out some urban fantasy garbage cuz I SURE DO
It’s pretty straightforward - I’m gonna (probably gradually over time) get my guys on here with a brief idea of how they’d work in this setting, here are some prompts and such, feel free to pick one or more or just make up a thing yourself!
Species
Please note that you are free to decide details of how your character ‘works’ - a ghost could be trapped on the mortal plane because of unfinished business or a curse, a vampire could have been bitten or it could be a genetic trait, demons could be naturally malevolent or some of them are just dicks. It’s up to you!
1. Werewolf - Big furry woofers. Pretty straightforward.
2. Vampire - Blood-sucking, darkness, maybe bats or mist or something is involved?
3. Fae - Probably going to be more of Seelie vs. Unseelie mischief-causing variety than cute little flying people.
4. Demon - Ow, the edge.
5. Ghost - Remember when that one animated music video was super popular for like a month and you couldn’t take two steps without tripping over fanart of it? Anyway, your character is dead.
6. Human - You all know how these work. Do I even need a prompt for this?
Scenario
1. Monster Hunt - Have there been some mysterious murders? Magical destiny? Or maybe you just really hate people with pointy teeth.
2. Occult Shop - Hey, witches and such have to get their supplies somewhere. It could be hidden somewhere or out in plain daylight, but something about this store probably feels a little off. Or maybe it’s just the smell.
3. Turf War - Is vampires vs. werewolves still cool? I don’t even know. The point is you don’t like them and they don’t like you and this is YOUR TERRITORY. Or maybe it’s theirs. Maybe the real territory was the friends we made along the way.
4. INVESTIGATION - Look there’s no denying that some weird stuff happens in this city, and some people are bound to want to figure out just what. Potentially regardless of whether they’re prepared for what they’re getting themselves into.
[[I’ll probably add more eventually I’ve been out all day and I’m tired right now]]

[He frowns a little as he continues.]
It's better hidden this time. Smaller too.

Good luck, then... Not like I've got to tell you to be careful.
no subject
Do you have any of those little- [He mimes snapping something small like a twig.] -pager charm? Things?

Ah, here you go.
no subject
Good. I'm going to be giving out the signal ends of these to a handful of wolves we trust. That way if they, or somebody they know needs a safe place, they can use it to contact me and Rala. Then I'll come personally and take them there.
[There's a pause while he looks at the charms again critically, and hands the signaling end back to Grant.]
You're one of those wolves.
no subject
...And you'll take non-wolves if necessary, right?
no subject
I'm...we haven't discussed it.
[Rala would have some Things to say about it probably. So would Urs. It's not like the previous human inhabitants of Zamonia were the reason it fell...or, not the only reason rather. But the new, hyper-vigilant construction of the whole place seemed like it wouldn't have a lot of wiggle room.]
Why?
no subject
Simply put, I'm... not just looking out for myself these days.
[As if that's anything new, but the point is:] I've got a kid.
no subject
What does he say.]
Oh.
[Um.]
no subject
I'm not going to be able to use this if Chip can't come with me. I'm not leaving them on their own.
no subject
Right. Keep it though. I can't see Rala turning away a kid, especially not yours. And also it's for more than just you. The charm. Anybody who needs, I mean any wolf.
[Christ he's getting mixed up okay start over.]
You might meet somebody who could use it. She wants to try and build like... a network.
[But that's work for him and Rala. Right now Rumo is still coming to terms with Grant having a kid. Did you need, y'know, a lady to have that happen so...]
How...Chip?
[Very coherent Rumo good job.]
no subject
Uh... yeah, that's their name.
[???]
no subject
Where did you get it? I mean who....how?
[He repeats himself. But maybe this was more clear? He's not sure how else to ask.]
no subject
Oh. Oh okay.]
Oh-- no, they're not... Chip is adopted.
[Frankly, even if he were interested in women to begin with, Grant considers the risk of passing on his condition to be way too high to be worth it, thanks.]
no subject
But yeah that answers a lot of questions all very nicely.]
Oh okay.
[Adopted. So that means probably this was intentional. So now he finally knows how to react.]
Congratulations.
[It comes out kind of flat, the way most things he says do, but he is genuine, and there's even a weak tail wag that serves as his equivalent of a small smile.]
no subject
Thanks. [Grant's smile as he says that sure isn't the expression of someone who doesn't want to be taking care of a kid.] It's... taken some adjustment, but I'd say that's worth it.
Rumo is a Cishet who is making Assumptions sorry Chip.
Rumo knew...nothing about parents really. He was abandoned at birth, lived as a feral child up until around 10, (honestly it's a miracle he managed to become as verbal as he has), and was then raised by a commune at large. The closest thing he'd ever had to a father was he guesses Urs, or maybe Ushan. But Urs was only a few years older than him, and Ushan was his fencing instructor so most of their bonding had been through physical confrontation and snide reluctant mentorship.
He's pretty sure that's not how dads are supposed to act. He's pretty sure dads are supposed to be...protective and kind.]
You'll be a good dad.
[Not 'I think' or 'probably'. Rumo states it like a known fact.]
no subject
I sure hope you're right. Thanks, either way.
D'you... want to hang around for a while?
no subject
[Rumo doesn't do a whole lot of self doubt, and he knows Grant can sometimes fall into a funk of only that, so he tries to be firm and final about things like this when he can. He's not great at being comforting or supportive, but he tries in his own ways.
He nods, another small tail wag accompanying it.]
I have more wolves to visit in the city, and a few on the outskirts tomorrow. I was hoping I could stay the night?
['Hoping' is a bit mild. He assumed he would be welcome to crash here, he's done it in the past on a few occasions. With a child though, Grant might be short the space. Rumo wouldn't mind sleeping in the cellar. He actually really likes those dog beds to be honest.]
no subject
[He frowns and glances toward the trapdoor. As it happens, he's wondering if he should sleep down there - though Chip would probably want to go down there too in that case, and he'd rather not wake them up.]
no subject
I'm fine with down there. But first, how many signal ends do you have for this, and how much do I owe you?
[He holds up the charm.]
no subject
[He shakes his head.] Don't worry about it. I'm not gonna charge you for this.
no subject
[As for the "discount", Rumo's never turned down a bargain.]
Thanks.
[The more serious business finally finished Rumo's stern demeanor relaxes a little.]
So how long have you had Chip?
